"Laid back living by the beach"

Villa Monyet is surrounded  by a lush green, organic flowering  garden with beautiful views of the beach,  Batu Karas bay, and the more distant mountains.

It is a place where you can relax by the  beach, swing on the hammock,  or laze on the daybed, while reading your favourite books. Or you can opt for something more adventurous,  such as surfing, canyoning, trecking, or cycling.

Our bungalows are inspired by traditional Indonesian architecture, using local building materials and Batu Karas’ builders; the roof is made from alang-alang aka palm leaves sourced from the Green Canyon river, and woven into roofing by villagers from Cijulang. The alang-alang roofing is a favoured method of roof construction in West Java. The timber is sustainably grown and milled from a nearby, certified plantation, and the bamboo used througout the bungalows, is locally grown, and of course, one of the most sustainable building materials available.

We provide breakfast, with a changeable menu, as well as free tea, coffee, or drinking water, in our Jungle Kitchen.  The Jungle Kitchen is set in the middle of our small , living, teakwood forest, hence the name, and enjoys lovely views of our garden and bungalows.  If you feel like cooking, please do, or just kick back and enjoy a coffee and a chat.

Batu Karas is a great place for would-be surfers, beginners and more advanced surfers. Advanced surfers can ride the reef break, right in front of our bungalows. For less experienced surfers, and beginners, the point break at Lego Pari, about 15 minutes walk from Villa Monyet, is ideal.

For a taste of local culture try Villa Monyet’s famous barbeque night.  The way we eat is unique; nasi liwet or rice cooked in a traditional wok with special spices,  is served up with the freshest, most succulent local barbequed fish, crabs and prawns on huge banana leaves at one long, single table.  Everyone eats together, without spoons or forks, only hands, often fighting over the best part of the fish, or the last bit of sambal, just as monkeys do. That’s why our place is called Villa Monyet.

We also offer surfing lessons, trips to secret surf spots, a sunset river cruise, a green canyon tour, and a green valley tour. Or you can do your own tour around Batu Karas on our classic, antique bicycles.

We have 5 bungalows :

1.Reef Break bungalow,
2.Point Break Bungalow,
3.Organic Hut Bungalow,
4.Family surf Bungalow
5.Garden view room.
